Medicare 2016 Part C & D Star Ratings Technical Notes Summary

Durham, NC — On September 2nd, CMS released the update for the Medicare 2016 Part C & D Star Rating Technical Notes. This update documents the following:

• New measures added to the program
• Changes to the calculation methodology, and
• Updates to the thresholds for the measures in the Medicare Star Rating program.

These changes have been applied to create the 2016 Star Rating for Medicare Part  C& D plans displayed on the Medicare Plan Finder found at www.medicare.gov. Medicare beneficiaries, beginning on October 15th, can view these 2016 Star Ratings when selecting their MA-PD or PDP for the 2016 benefit year. Effective October 16th, Pharmacy Quality Solutions (PQS) will begin displaying the updated 2016 Star Rating thresholds in EQuIPP.
