Two weeks ago, the National Community Pharmacists Association hosted a well-attended, day-long seminar titled “NCPA Specialty Forum – Exploring the intersection of specialty medications, community pharmacy and patient care.”
This event was centered around the notion that independent pharmacies should play a larger role in specialty pharmacy because channeling all of the specialty patients into mass outlets could result in a dilution in the level of patient care. The goal of this event was to create a platform and dialogue to help independent pharmacies overcome the hurdles of entering the specialty pharmacy business and offer strategies and advice for successfully competing within that space once they’re there.
“The event was certainly helpful,” said Michael Kim, owner and president of CARE Pharmacies’ Grubb’s NW Specialty Pharmacy. “Hearing how other people are doing things is a big help. It helps spark ideas.”
