Linthicum, MD — CARE Pharmacies, an 85 store regional drug chain of independent community pharmacies operating in 9 states, on Monday announced that it has implemented Pharmacy Quality Solutions’ EQuIPP software to benchmark and identify areas for improvement in each of its locations aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes.

“As independent pharmacies, our uniqueness lies in our ability to drive better quality of service and better patient outcomes,” Michael Wysong, CEO, of CARE Pharmacies said. “Now we can actually measure that quality.”  “As more performance networks evolve and payor models continue to shift from fee for service to fee for value, it is imperative that our members have the tools to stay competitive and to retain access to the patients that value the programs and services that they provide.”

“We are pleased to be collaborating with the innovators at CARE Pharmacies,” said David Nau, President of Pharmacy Quality Solutions.  “It is clear that the leadership of CARE has a strong commitment to excellence and will ensure that members have access to the tools necessary to thrive in an outcomes-driven environment.”

PQS is a joint venture of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance and CECity. PQA-endorsed measures are used by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the Medicare Part D Star Ratings Program, a performance metric system used to rate prescription drug plan performance. Of the fifteen metrics included in a Part D Star Rating, five core pharmacy metrics are triple weighted and can influence nearly half of a drug plan’s total composite score, making it critical that payors partner with high-performing pharmacies.

CARE Pharmacies is a member of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance and is committed to supporting the organization’s effort to standardize pharmacy performance metrics. CARE was awarded a partnership grant from the Pharmacy Quality Alliance to roll out medication synchronization, in September of 2013.  CARE is a member owned and operated cooperative of independent community and specialty pharmacies, offering a full range of programs and services designed to meet the dynamic needs of the independent pharmacy owner operator.
